SPRINTS – Deceptacon
Dublin post-punk band SPRINTS release a cover of Le Tigre’s 1999 dance punk classic “Deceptacon,” transforming the riot grrrl anthem with their signature visceral noise-rock energy. The band has been playing the cover live at festival sets for fun, but now they’ve put out a proper studio version to mark their return to North America.
“I’m not sure there’s a woman in the world who plays guitar that hasn’t been inspired by Kathleen Hanna,” says vocalist Karla Chubb. The cover stays true to the fury and immediacy of the original while translating Le Tigre’s DIY electro spirit through guitar-driven intensity. SPRINTS reproduce the synth bits on guitar, maintaining both the joyful and vengeful energy that made the original an underground smash.
The timing fits perfectly with the band’s 12-date North American tour supporting their acclaimed 2025 album All That Is Over. That record earned 5-star reviews and Best of 2025 placements from Kerrang!, DIY, Dork, and Rough Trade. Released via City Slang, the cover arrives with a lyric video by Jonny Sanders/Pre-human featuring photos by Tom Ham.
SPRINTS have built their reputation on ferocious live shows that echo their recorded sound—equal parts raw and refined, catapulting listeners into controlled chaos. After wrapping the North American dates in February, they’ll head to Europe for an extensive spring tour with stops across Germany, France, Belgium, Netherlands, and more, plus festival appearances at Bearded Theory, Paaspop, Southside, Hurricane, and All Together Now.
I’ll be catching them at Schlachthof in Wiesbaden on April 1st.
